Google Analytics Desktop Analyzer
I use this Google Analytics Desktop Analyser program, I check my Blogs traffic volume, where people came from, how they got here and what keywords they used.
I’ve been using this program for a while now, I think I first came across it from a Twitter tweet.
You could easily use the main Google Analytics website but to easily look at the reports this program has would take you much longer and in an age where time is precious handy little programs like this are perfect.
You can grab the program from here http://www.reportanalyzer.co.in/ on the right side of the page you have to enter your e-mail to get it, this allows them to notify you of updates.
It uses Adobe Air, a warning comes up when you first go to install it, As I’ve mentioned I’ve been using it for a long time now and never had an issue with my Google Account. If you’re too worried don’t install it or you could use the feedback section on their site to question them about the warning.
Continue with the install, I just use the default location.
Agree to the license or don’t it’s up to you
Enter your Google Analytics details into the boxes and check the box for remember me if you don’t want to have to keep entering your details everytime you run it.
This is the main screen, the top right has a drop down so you can pick which site to Analyze, the top left a drop down for various reports the program has and if you click the date you can change the reporting period. I’ve set it for the last Month.
Here you can see visits, page views, pages per visit, bounce rate, avg time spent on site, % of new visitors.
You can change the report format to bar, line or grid view, the shot below is grid view.
The next option Visits Overview, this shows you visits per day in either bar or line format.
The next option is Traffic Source, I must be doing something right with my SEO, a large % of my huge 95 visits in the Month were direct from Google and some were from Bing, I’m happy with that.
Next up is Traffic Medium, here you can pick visits or pageviews.
Next is Visits By Location, I find this one interesting, it’s cool to see where people are who visit my site. 3 options here Country and City, Country or City.
Next is Visits by Browser, another interesting one. I’m surprised by how many visits I get by people using the Safari Browser. You can have bar or grid views.
Next is Top Content, there isn’t much of that here yet
You could use this report to drop what isn’t working on your Blog or WebSite and promote more of what is to get more traffic.
And lastly Keywords, number 2 in my list “Not Set” is exactly that, when I did the story about my blogs seo fail http://www.aaronrockey.com/my-blog-seo-fail/ I removed keywords and tags from a lot of my posts to redo them but I still haven’t, I must get around to that… You can use this report to see how people are getting to your site by the keywords they used, You could add these keywords to your page/web/blog if you find the search volume high enough and they are relevant.
That’s all the program does at this stage which is quite a lot, the developers plan to add a lot more features to it in the next release, if you end up using it and can think of more reports you’d like in it go to their site and fill out the feedback form.
Cheers
Aaron
