6 Times Snooze
6 Times Snooze
That’s how many times I hit the snooze button on my Clock Radio this morning, I woke around 2am I couldn’t get back to sleep so I ended up watching a Star Trek Next Gen episode and when that ended I tried to go back to sleep which thankfully I did.
My alarm is set for 5.30am weekdays but this morning I didn’t get out of bed until after 6am, I just didn’t feel like getting up and thankfully I didn’t turn the alarm off otherwise I reckon I would have been very late to work. Outside it was cold and wet so maybe my body was telling me to have a sick day.
Driving to work I got to wondering who invented the Snooze on an Alarm Clock and why, I got to work and was talking to a colleague about it all and she said they probably enjoyed having morning glory I had no idea what this was until she mentioned bonking… Could it be so simple that someone invented the snooze so they could have a quick bonk before really getting up? Mine only lasts 5min between snoozes that isn’t long enough (well it may be for some) but reading online the standard snooze time is 9min which is slightly better. I decided to find out how it came about so I turned to my trusty friend Google search.
Apparently Lew Wallace invented the Snooze Alarm. General Electric makes a clock with a Snooze function in 1956 and in 1959 Westclox introduces the Drowse Electric Alarm Clock, the Worlds first Snooze Clock with a rocking 5/10 minute snooze option.
Lew Wallace apparently ended up being a recluse so my colleague’s idea doesn’t seem likely, pity – I liked the idea of someone making a Snooze button so people could have some enjoyment before going to work.
Cheers
Aaron
